In 2019 after 5 years in the ecosystem, the firm realized the ecosystem lacked a reliable financing instrument for early stage companies. Investors, were conflicted about using instruments they were used to because the African ecosystem was different; exits were not straight forward, and liquidity events were rare. This propelled us to reflect on how early stage investments. In 2019, we pioneered the shield-agreement for future equity designed for pre-revenue companies with potential to scale and grow. The instrument was well received and peer reviewed by several eco-system players. In 2020, at the next.legal summit, the firm will launch a set of two post revenue agreements; the shield share repurchase and convertible revenue loan agreement dubbed the series shield agreements.
